MONTESSORI CURRICULUM

Not only is the Montessori school curriculum much broader than most other curriculums, it teaches more than just the basics. There are so many real life benefits to a Montessori education that are hard to explain in few short paragraphs, but to provide you with a brief understanding of why so many parents choose Montessori Education for their children we have compiled a list of the top ten reasons parents prefer a Montessori preschool over traditional preschool.
Our teachers are highly trained and qualified.

Our Toddlers-Primary Guides all hold Authentic Montessori Certifications.A quality Montessori education is related to the education of the Guide in their room. Our Guides have the training and experience to create a rich and comprehensive environment that best serves each individual child. Our Guides have worked hard and undergone extensive training, that can take up to 2+ years.By our commitment to hire and retain these highly qualified professionals we believe we show our dedication to creating an authentic Montessori atmosphere. All Guides have their certifications displayed proudly in their classroom and you are more than welcome to request to see their credentials at any time.

Experienced Leadership that is available, accommodating, communicative and proactive.

Our Head of School has over 13 years of childcare experience in both classroom and leadership roles, throughout preschools in McKinney. She holds a National Administrators Credential and is obtaining her Bachelor’s in Social Work and Family Studies. She is available from Monday-Friday and by appointment on Saturday. Our owners are also very present in the school and in daily communication with leadership to maintain the highest quality of service to our families. Applebee communicates to families in a variety of ways, including real time updates in our Child Pilot app, Facebook, our website, weekly zoom conferences with teachers, bi-monthly Zoom discussions with the Director, emails and our parent resource center located in our lobby.

We hold our staff to the highest standards of training and Licensing Compliance

Our staff is required to obtain at least 24 hours of training annually.Training topics include, brain development, child nutrition, safe sleep, preventing illnesses and much more.Everyone on campus also holds a current CPR/First Aid card and undergoes frequent FBI background checks, drug screening and fingerprinting.

Free Discovery Day

To help make sure the transition to Applebee is smooth, we offer potential families a free discovery day before he or she starts school. Parents are free to choose a day before they enroll to drop off their little one so the child can experience the environment. After, we invite parents to meet with both the Director and Guides to discuss their experience and ask any questions they may have.

Authentic Montessori Curriculum, Materials and Enrichments

The list of Montessori school materials required in each room is extensive and expensive and many schools do not make that investment in their environments. At Applebee Montessori, we make sure each classroom is fully equipped with the highest quality materials. We make updates to the environment monthly to make sure they are well equipped and that our Guides, and children have everything they need to be successful. Our materials cover all the following areas of curriculum: Practical Life, Sensorial, Geography, Mathematics, Language, Science, Botany and Cultural. Additionally, we offer Spanish, music, gym, and computer lab classes coming in 2021.

Family Centered

Family is at the heart of what we do and is always a priority for us.We truly feel like a family at Applebee Montessori. We hold many events during the year that allow us to continue to cultivate the sense of family we have here at Applebee. Some events we host are: Thanksgiving Feast, Celebration of Cultures, Spring Parade, Egg Hunt, Mother’s/Father’s Day celebrations and much more!

A highly secure, beautiful, and clean school

Applebee Montessori was opened in November 2019 and features a spacious foyer with two large screen monitors that show the feeds from over 32 cameras, that cover classrooms, hallways, the parking lot, and perimeter of our campus. We have a cleaning crew who comes after hours, multiple times a week to clean our school from top to bottom. We also have a key-pad entry system. Each family and staff member has a unique key code that must be entered to unlock the doors leading into the lobby. Additionally, all our doors that lead directly out of the school do not have handles on the outside, eliminating the risk of someone entering from the outside.

Year-Round Programs

Applebee Montessori creates and follows their own yearly calendar, which allows us to close less often.Unlike some schools, we are open during spring and summer breaks, as well as winter breaks. During the summer, we also offer summer camps for our after-school children.

Fundraising and Charitable Contributions

Applebee hosts many charity and fundraising initiatives throughout the year to benefit our community, as well as the world. Some of the organizations we work with are: Hug’s Café, Susan G. Komen, Make A Wish, Toys for Tots, and McKinney Little Free Pantry. We are always looking for new organizations to work with and welcome any suggestions you may have.

Extensive COVID-19 Policies

Applebee Montessori takes the current pandemic very seriously. We take student and teacher temperatures multiple times throughout the day. We are only allowing critical staff into the school. In addition, to the already high cleaning standards we have, we have added even more scheduled cleaning times for all our rooms. You can read more about our COVID-19 policies here.

We invite you to join us at a tour and see why we are the best Montessori preschool in McKinney!

HOW IS APPLEBEE MONTESSORI HANDLING COVID-19?

We also want to take this opportunity to briefly mention our Covid-19 Policies and Procedures. In accordance with CDC guidelines and Child Care Licensing mandates issued May 18th, 2020 – our operations will be adjusted in the following way. Although our business hours are 6:30am to 6:30pm – children may begin arriving at 7am and may stay until 6pm. The staff requires the extra half hour in the morning and evening to perform additional sanitizing. We are required to communicate to you the importance of monitoring any symptoms your child may exhibit and the importance of keeping your child home if they are sick. Any child that has a family member in their home who has tested positive for COVID-19 must be kept home for 2 weeks following their last exposure to that family member. Any child who has visited a family member with a possible COVID-19 diagnosis must be kept home for 2 weeks following their last exposure to the family member. All staff members are required to abide by the same rules as the children and remain equally mindful of their own health and to use the utmost caution when not at school. Our ability to remain open and operational for the benefit of both the staff and our enrolled families is always entirely dependent on everyone taking every precaution possible. At drop off, every child will have their temperature taken at the door, and a second time during the day (If a child has an increasing temperature or low-grade fever in the 99 degree range, parents will be sent a heads up message) and will answer a series of questions through our Child Pilot Parent app. While at school, all children will be taken for hand washing at the following times throughout the day:
Any child developing a fever of 100 degrees or more will be separated from the class and made comfortable until a parent can pick up. Parents are requested to make immediate arrangements to pick up their child. Each child will have their own classroom labeled supply box (pencil box) that includes their own crayons, pencils, PlayDoh, and so forth to limit sharing. Each child at Applebee Montessori Academy already has their own cubby which ensures that no-one’s bedding or personal items touch anyone else’s. We will continue to teach cough and sneeze etiquette. We cough or sneeze into a tissue or our elbows, not our hands. We wash hands after coughs and sneezes. We will continue to teach as much social distancing as appropriate for the age of the child. At pick-up, The outer door will be unlocked and parents should ring the doorbell. (The doorbell button requires you to press and hold it down for a few seconds.) If there is already a parent in the glass box, please wait until they exit before you enter. Once we see you, we will go and get your child. Please allow a minute or two for one final hand washing before we release them to you.
Staff

Only critical staff are being permitted access to the building.

Staff will also have their temperatures taken every day just like the children. These temperatures are being recorded and any member of staff with a temperature of 100 degrees will be asked to leave and may not return for 14 days or until a negative test result is produced.

Staff are required to complete two additional training modules: 1) Providing High Quality Experiences during COVID-19 for Emergency Child Care Settings and 2) Special Considerations for Infection Control during COVID-19.

Visitors
Visitors to the building may only be permitted access once there are no children in the building. Visitors must wear a mask and gloves at all times.
School Cleaning

All bathrooms will be sanitized 3 times each day that children are using them.

Classrooms, furniture and manipulatives will be sprayed down daily.

Bedding will be washed twice a week.

Additional deep sanitizing will take place every Friday evening.

Daily janitorial services will only take place when there are NO children in the building due to the stronger disinfectants that are being used. Janitorial services will ALWAYS wear a mask and gloves while in the building.
